Man booked for burning stubble in Sangrur

SANGRUR: Police booked a farmer for burning paddy stubble in Sangrur district on Saturday.

Tejwant Singh, a resident of Dhadogal village near Dhuri, has been booked under Section 188 (defying the order promulgate­d by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code at Amargarh police station.

Police said Singh has violated orders of the deputy commission­er by burning stubble in his fields.

“Acting on a tip off, police raided Tejwant Singh’s farms. He was caught burning paddy residue. We found that he had burnt stubbles in around 5 bigha. We have registered a case but no arrest has been made yet,” said investigat­ion officer Jagdev Singh.

On October 15, police had booked six farmers for burning paddy stubble and violating orders of the district administra­tion in Bakhora Kalan village near Moonak.
