NTPC PLANT LIMPS BACK TO WORK

ALLAHABAD: Security personnel remained on alert at the NTPC Unchahar plant three days after a boiler explosion left 32 dead and triggered a massive demonstrat­ion by workers on Thursday.

On Saturday, most workers, except for those of the thermal power plant’s affected sixth unit, arrived as usual for the morning shift from 8am, even as the administra­tion claimed that it had started disbursing compensati­on to the injured and the kin of the dead.

Work in the sixth unit was stopped on Wednesday after the deadly explosion.

Rae Bareli district magistrate Sanjay Khatri said the situation was back to normal in the plant except in the affected sixth unit.

“I handed over compensati­on cheques of ₹2 lakh each to the families of three deceased on Friday inUnc ha har.T he remaining compensati­on cheques will be disbursed today,” he said.

MadanKumar,sub-divisional magistrate (Unchahar), said of the nine workers from Rae Bar eli district killed in the blast, eight belonged to Unchahar tehsil.

“Of the eight killed in the mishap, the DM handed over three cheques to kin of deceased in Chee pi ya and Tik aura village on Friday. I handed over compensati­on cheque stok in of three deceased on Saturday. One cheque is pending with me as the same has to be handed over to the family of deceased AGM Sanjiv Kumar S harm a. S harm a’ s family has gone to Sahara np ur after his death. One cheque is being pre- pared and will be disbursed on Sunday,” he told HT.

Chief minister Yogi Adityana th, who returned from a threeday trip to Mauritius on Saturday, visited Lucknow hospitals where the victims of boiler explosion are undergoing treatment.

Adityanath, who visited the King George’s Medical University (KGMU), the Civil hospital and the San jay Gandhi PostGradua­te Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), en quired about the condition of the severely injured labourers and directed doctors to ensure that they receive the best treatment.
