LONDON: England seamer Jake Ball is in doubt with an ankle injury for England’s final Ashes warm-up game in Townsville next week, team officials said on Saturday. The Nottinghamshire paceman had scans which revealed a right ankle ligament strain after a tumble while bowling on day two of the fourday tour match against a Cricket Australia XI at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.

INJURY ASSESSMENT

The England medical team will assess the injury over the next week and he will play no further part in the Adelaide match, a team spokesman said.

England’s and Wales cricket board’s national selectors have called up England Lions and Sussex left-arm seamer George Garton as cover for Ball for Wednesday’s final four-day warm-up match ahead of the first Brisbane Test, starting on November 23.

ENGLAND XI WIN

ADELAIDE: England’s seamers fine-tuned their skills ahead of the first Ashes Test by handing the tourists a 192-run win over a Cricket Australia XI in a fourday day-night tour game at the Adelaide Oval here on Saturday. Set 269 to win, the home side was bowled out for 75 early on the final day.

Brief scores: England 293 & 207 (J Bairstow 61 n.o, M Stoneman 51, S Milenko 5/34) beat CA XI 233 & 75 (C Woakes 4/17, J Anderson 3/12, Overton 3/15) by 192 runs.
