12 days on, police yet to identify robbers

TARNTARAN: The police are yet to find a breakthrou­gh in the Axis bank robbery, which took place on November 3 at Ghurakwind village, 40 km from the district headquarte­rs.

Deputy superinten­dent of police (DSP) Parladh Singh said, “We received a special report from our cyber crime branch on Wednesday.

After examining the details thoroughly, suspects will be rounded up.”

He said, “Though the entire incident was captured in closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed inside the bank premises but the visual is not clear so, we were unable to identify the accused.”

Three bike-borne robbers with covered faces had looted over ₹6 lakh at gunpoint from the bank, after thrashing the unarmed bank guard on November 3.

The miscreants, reportedly in their thirties, stormed inside the bank at around 1.30 pm.

Two of the three miscreants pointed guns at the manager Prince Chopra and asked him to give all the cash available in the bank.

Another miscreant pointed gun at the customers and threatened them to not move or raise alarm.

After looting the cash, the robbers opened fire in the air twice.

A case under Sections 394 (voluntaril­y causing hurt in committing robbery) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25-27-54-59 of the Arms Act was registered at Bhikhiwind police station in this regard.

Previously, on October 8, four unidentifi­ed armed robbers decamped after looting Punjab National Bank at Jamarai village, 20 km from the district headquarte­rs.

The miscreants looted ₹6,63,945 at gunpoint, after thrashing the bank staff.

Though the police had claimed to have cracked the Punjab National Bank robbery case but the key accused are still at large.
