Shagun traps gold at National C’ship, Manavjit on course
NEW DELHI: Shagun Chowdhary bagged a national champion crown when she won the women’s trap event at the 61st National Shooting Championship here.
Representing ONGC, Chowdhary, the first Indian woman trap shooter to win an Olympic berth, overcame the challenge from Punjab’s Rajeshwari Kumari to prevail 41-38 in the final. Defending champion Shreyasi Singh, representing Bihar, finished third with a final round score of 29 on day two of the competitions.
The day began with Shreyasi leading the qualification round. She went on to top the list of qualifiers with a score of 72, while Chowdhary, with 67, qualified third and Rakeshwari shot 62 to qualify in fourth place for the six-woman final.
In the men’s trap event, former world champion Man avjit Sing hS andhu continued to lead the qualification field at the end of day two of the competition, shooting 73 out of 75. The men’s trap final is on Friday.
ACHIEVE RS BEAT SON A
NEW DELHI: Achievers defeated Sona Polo 6-5 in the Indian Masters Polo here on Thursday. The scores were even for both sides till the dying seconds of the last chukkar with Mathew Perry scoring the winning goal for Achievers by converting a 60-yard.
The first chukkar began with Sona Polo opening their account with Abhimanyu scoring the first goal of the day. Achievers followed with a beautiful shot by Pad man ab hS ingh. The scores at the end of first chukkar were 1-all. The second and the third chukkars also saw close fight.

BANGALORE: Delhi’s Honey Baisoya smashed a phenomenal eight-under-64, the joint lowest score in a professional event at the Karnataka Golf Association (KGA) course, to establish a three-shot lead at the halfway stage of the Bengaluru Open Golf Championship.
The 21-year-old Baisoya (67-64), a winner of four titles on the PGTI in the last one year including two this season, delivered an eagle, seven birdies and a bogey today to power ahead of the rest at 13-under-131.

NEWDELHI: India’s top male boxers will make their first transAtlantic trip for training and will be based at sprint icon Michael Johnson’s acclaimed high performance centre next month, putting their preparations for Commonwealth Games in top gear. “We are leaving for the USA for a physical training camp at the Michael Johnson Academy in Texas next month. Boxers who are part of the Target Olympic Podium (TOP) scheme will be travelling for this,” Indian boxing’s High Performance Director and men’s coach Santiago Nieva said.
