PUNJAB ASSEMBLY SESSION FROM NOV 27

The winter session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha will be held for three days, from November 27 to 29. The decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet on Friday, which also agreed to meet every Wednesday at 3pm to ensure smooth functionin­g of the government.

BATHINDA: The Punjab unit of the Communist Party of India( Marxis t-Leninist )- Liberation will host the party’s 11th national convention in Mansa over three days beginning March 23, martyrdom anniversar­y of Bhagat Singh.

Announcing the programme here, party general secretary Deepankar Bhattachar­ya said the meet would be attended by around 1,200 delegates from 25 states. He was here to preside over a seminar to mark the 100 years of the October Revolution in Russia.

Commenting on the current state of politics in India, he said the ruling BJP was fearing defat in the Gujarat assembly polls next month due to “upsurge of Dalits against the saffron forces” and “the opposition posed by the traders in the wake of the GST regime”.

He also said the “killings of innocents, mainly Muslims, in the name of cow protection” has not stopped.

Referring to recent protest rallies by trade organisati­ons and labour unions, including those by mid-day meal and Anganwadi workers, had “scared” the ruling BJP at the Centre. HTC
