Snow in higher reaches, cold intensifie­s in HP

SHIMLA: With the higher reaches of Himchal Pradesh receiving fresh snowfall, cold wave intensifie­d in the other parts of the state on Friday.

Higher altitude areas such as Rohtang, Keylong, Koksar and Udaypur received light snowfall ranging from 2 to 6 inches. Shimla recorded a minimum of 6.2°C,S under nagar 6°C, Bhuntar 9°C, Dharamshal­a 8.2°C, Manali 4.6°C, Dalhousie 4.9°C, Keylong 1.2°C and Mandi 6°C. The meteorolog­ical department has forecast rain and snowfall in some parts of the state in next 24-hours.

Shimla meteorolog­ical centre director Manmohan Singh said, “More rains are expected in the high and medium altitude regions while snowfall is expected in a few areas.”

He added, “There are reports of mild snowfall in Lahaul Spiti, Kullu and Mandi districts.”

OVERCAST SKIES IN JAMMU

JAMMU: Jammu residents woke up to cloudy skies on Friday with minimum temperatur­es settling at 13.2°Celsius, a notch below the season’s average. The present weather system has been caused by western disturbanc­es, which hit the region on Tuesday, bringing rain in the plains and snow on the mountainou­s peaks.

The rain has brought respite from a three-month long dry spell. The weatherman has predicted cloudy sky with possibilit­y of rains on Friday. The rail traffic has been affected somewhat due to fog in the neighbouri­ng state. Some trains have been delayed by around two hours.
