9-yr-old boy hit by Farooq’s motorcade, hospitalis­ed

JAMMU: A minor boy, barely nine years old, was hit in Nag rot a by a speeding car, which was part of former chief minister Farooq Abdullah’s motorcade, police sources said on Friday.

The victim has been identified as Ya sin, son of Mo ham med Rafiq of Bain Bajalta.

He was on his way back home from school when the car hit the boy, police sources said.

A senior police officer, on the condition of anonymity, said, “One of the security vehicles of the motorcade hit the boy but they took care of the victim and immediatel­y rushed him to a hospital in Jammu.”

“Legal action under the relevant Sections shall be initiated,” he added.

BOY REFERRED TO AMRITSAR HOSPITAL

Police sources had earlier told the Hindustan Times that soon after the incident, a police party chased the vehicle and intercepte­d it at a distance.

The driver and others travelling in it were asked by the police party to shift the victim to a hospital and thereafter the minor was shifted to government medical college and hospital here.

The boy suffered a fracture in one of his legs and has also sustained a head injury. Doctors at the hospital referred the boy to an Amritsar hospital in view of his injuries.

It could not be confirmed whether Farooqw as travelling in the car or it carried his Z plus security commandos when the mishap took place.

He was on his way to meet the bereaved family of So han la lB hag at, the Ass am Rifles soldier who was killed in an I ED blast in Mani puron Monday, at Sarah Pargalta in Nag rota.

SENIOR NC LEADER ISSUES DENIAL

Meanwhile, a senior NC leader, who was accompanyi­ng Farooq Abdullah, claimed that the motorcade never hit the boy.

“The boy was hit by an unknown vehicle and it was an advance party of Special Operations Group (SOG) personnel, which out of humanity, picked up the boy and rushed him to hospital,” he said.

The motorcade of Farooq passed the stretch 40 minutes later and therefore there was no question of it hitting the boy, he claimed.
