MOGA: A local court in Baghapurana on Saturday sent both the alleged shooters — Hardeep Singh alias Shera and Ramandeep Singh ‘Canadian’ — in the targeted killings in Punjab to 14-day judicial custody, while the manager of a petrol pump owned by Dharmender alias Guggni, another accused, was sent to two-day police remand.

The pump manager, Anil Kumar alias Kala, of Ludhiana was arrested by the Moga police from the industrial city after his role emerged in receiving money and handing over illegal weapons on the behalf of Guggni when the latter was in the jail.

Sarabjit Singh, DSP, investigation, said that on the behalf of Guggni, Kala used to smuggle weapons at his petrol pump; and the hitmen received weapons from him at the petrol pump. “Kala has been arrested in the case registered in December 2016 under Arms Act and Unlawful Activities Prevention Act at Baghapurana police station,” he added. In this case, the Baghapurana police had recovered a pistol and car- tridges concealed under the tree in Budh Singh Wala village. The pistol was used in murder by accused Tirlok Singh, who was arrested by the Bajakhana police. Thereon, the police claimed to have joined the dots with the targeted killings.

DSP Sarabjit said that they have searched locations where Shera claimed to have concealed weapons but nothing has been found. So far, the police have recovered five weapons — all pistols — while an air gun and gas cylinder were recovered; these were reportedly used by Shera for training.
