Two arrested for robbery, arms seized

BATALA : The Batala police have arrested two persons including a retired armyman, for involving in snatching and robbing incidents in past few months.

Inspector general (IG-border) Amitsar, Surinder Pal Singh Parmar said that on a tip-off, police team led by SHO, Ghiana Ke Banger police station, Paramjeet Singh raided the house of one Gurpreet Singh alias Nikku at Jora Singh village under Kotli Surat Malhi police station and arrested him. They recovered one AK-47 riffle and 23 live cartridges from his possession.

During preliminar­y interrogat­ion, Nikku said that after his retirement from army, he purchased his riffle from a person at Doda in Jammu and Kashmir.

He confessed to his crime and said that he along with his aide John Masih, of Johal Nangal village, had robbed many truck drivers on Amritsar-Pathankot national highway.

He also confessed his involvemen­t in mobile snatching incidents.

As per the informatio­n by the accused, the police arrested his companion John Masih. He said, “I have a .12 bore license riffle, which I have given to gangster Rana Kadowal, who is undergoing imprisonme­nt.”

A case under Sections 379-B , 212 , 216 of the IPC, 25/54/59 Arms Act has been registered.

“We are investigat­ing the case and soon we are going to dispatch teams to J&K to search for the person, who had sold this AK-47 to the accused,” said IG.

In another incident, the police also held a person identified as Balwant Singh, of Verka Lal Kothi from Jangla village and recovered one .22 bore revolver and 5 live cartridges.

The accused is a companion of gangster Jagdeep Singh Jaggu and used to extort money from people. A case under Section 25/54/59 of the Arms act has been registered against him at Ghiana Ke Banger police station.

TRUCK SNATCHERS’ GANG BUSTED, 3 HELD

AMRITSAR: The rural police have busted a truck snatchers’ gang on Tuesday. Three gang members have been arrested.

The arrested accused are Sartaj, Gurlal Singh and Jasbir Singh.A case has been registered under Sections 392, 341 and 342 of the IPC.
