ROHTAK : Jat men arrested, and now out on bail, for alleged involvement in last year’s violent quota agitation burnt AIJASS president Yashpal Malik’s effigy at the Makrauli toll plaza on Saturday and courted arrest to demand cancellation of his rally in Rohtak’s Jassia village. The youths accused Malik of collecting donation from the Jat community in their name, but not extending any help to them. After burning the effigy, they also marched towards Jassia village to sit on a dharns at the rally spot — Jassia village in Rohtak.

However, heavy police force stopped them on the way. A highvoltage drama followed after protesters sat on the road and blocked one side of the highway, forcing the police to divert traffic.

They insisted that Malik’s rally be banned by government and they be allowed to stage a dharna at the rally spot. When the police did not let the protesters go beyond a check-post, the protesters courted arrest.

Meanwhile, Malik claimed that these protesters had been sponsored by the state government. “They will not be able to affect our rally in any way,” he said.

Rohtak range IG Navdeep Virk asked those wanting to reach the rallies to take the outer roads to reach their destinations instead of entering the cities. He said tight security had been deployed and no one would be allowed to break law and order.
