Stepfather arrested for rape and murder of two-year-old

FARIDABAD: Police on Saturday arrested a stepfather for the rape and murder of a two-year-old girl on November 22. The accused has been produced before court and remanded to two-day police custody. “We arrested Ravi Gupta, the accused, at around 7.30 am today near NHPC metro station,” DLF City crime incharge Ashok Kumar said, adding, “During the course of interrogat­ion, the accused confessed to having raped the child and beating her to death in the presence of his other daughter’.

“We even questioned the elder sister of the deceased girl and she confirmed the crime,” the cops investigat­ing the case said.

In the police complaint, the woman says she is the mother of three children, an elder boy and two girls, and her first husband died one and a half years ago.

The incident occurred on November 22 when she left her two girl children with her second husband, the accused Ravi Gupta.

The woman said that on November 22, when she left for work, her husband Ravi Gupta called her up repeatedly to inform that her younger girl was not feeling well. “When I reached his house, I found her in an unconsciou­s state. We took her to a hospital in Delhi where the doctors declared her brought dead, adding that the child had been raped too,” she said

“We have registered a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 323 (causing hurt) of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act,” said Sohan Pal Khatana, SHO, Sarai Kwaja police station.
