2 BOOKED FOR ASSAULTING COP IN TARN TARAN
TARNTARAN: The local police have booked two persons for allegedly assaulting an head constable at Char Khamba Chowk in Tarn Taran on Friday.
The accused have been identified as Ravinderjit Singh and Sukhdev Singh of Bath village, 5 km from here.
In a complaint with the city police, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Karanjit Singh said he along with his other subordinates had laid a naka at Char Khamba C ho wk. He said ,“During the routine check, head con stable N arinder Singh, signal led a Baja jP latina motorcycle( bearing registration number PB46-R-8202) ,coming from Amritsar side, to stop .”“The head con stable asked the two bike-borne accused to show the papers of the vehicle, but instead of showing it, the accused assaulted the cop,” he said. “The accused tore Narinder’s uniform and fled from the spot,” he said.
“Owing to rush in the market area we could not nab the accused at the site,” he said.
The AS Is aida case under Sections 353( assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) of the Indian Penal Code had been registered against the accused. “Both are absconding but we will arrest them soon,” he said.
SECOND INCIDENT IN A MONTH
This is the second such incident in a month, where a cop has been assaulted in Tarn Taran.
On October 26, Patti police of the district had booked seven labourers and a commission agent for allegedly assaulting a Punjab Police assistant sub-inspector, when he tried to pause a loudspeaker in Toot village grain market of Patti sub-division ,25 km from the district headquarters.
