AMRITSAR : Police have arrested two people — Vishal Sharma, 34, and Kunwarbir Singh alias Kaimi, 22, — for the murder of Hindu Sangharsh Sena leader Vipan Sharma, 42, on October 30. Sharma, the district president of the organisation in Amritsar, was shot dead in broad daylight in Bharat Nagar area near Batala Road.

Police commissioner SS Srivastava said in a press conference, on Thursday, that Vishal was driving one of the two motorcycles used in crime.

The motorcycle has also been recovered. Police have maintained that the main accused — gangsters Shubham Singh and Saraj SinghS andhu, alias Mintoo—had fired at S harm a. Shubham and Saraj are yet tobe arrested. Vishal, along with another accused, Gifty, had waited on the main road.

“The accused were arrested near Chatiwind gate in Amritsar following a tip-off. The bike used in the crime, PB02-BN-2642, has been recovered from them. During interrogation it was revealed that Kunwarbir Singh drove the four accused out of Punjab in his car and even helped them financially,” the commissioner added.

On the other accused still evading arrest, the police said the gangsters were communicating using social media apps, ensuring that the department was unable to use technology to track their location.
