HC seeks report from Haryana govt on probe

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Ha ryana high court on Thursday asked the Haryana government to apprise it of the outcome of the investigat­ion into Gurgaon-based Fortis Hospital charging ₹18 lakh from a family for treating a girl of dengue.

During the resumed hearing on Thursday on a suo motu petition initiated by the court on the issue, the high court bench of justice sA K Mitt al and Amti Raw al passed the order after the court was apprised of the incident.

Earlier, senior advocate Anupam Gupta, who is assisting the court in the matter as amicus curiae, brought the matter to the knowledge of the court and said that the seven-year-old died of dengue and the family was prescribed expensive medicines during her 15- day stay in the hospital that billed the family ₹18 lakh.

The girl, Adya Singh, was the daughter of an IT profession­al from Gurgaon. Adya was referred to the Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurgaon, after she was diagnosed with dengue and her condition deter iorated August 31.

As per reports The family decided to have her discharged from the hospital, and she died on the hospital premise before she could be transferre­d to another hospital in an ambulance.

The high court expressed its concern over the matter and asked Haryana to submit its probe report on December 12, the next date of hearing.
