FARIDABAD: A team of sleuths from the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) on Friday visited the spot where a Haryana police officer’s body was found on April 28, 2016.

A case with regard to the alleged suicide of ASI Mahavir Singh was registered four days ago. The CBI sleuths had visited Singh’s family and the Ballabgarh Sadar police station on Thursday.

“A senior CBI officer visited the police station on Thursday and took the records related to the suicide,” Hansraj, SHO, Ballabgarh Sadar, said.

“The officer visited our house on Thursday and we were assured that truth will prevail and justice will be done to us,” Chanchal Devi, the widow, said.

In her complaint, Devi held senior police officers responsi-

ble for forcing Singh into a situation due to which he had to commit suicide, by consuming a poisonous substance.

Ballabgarh Sadar police had registered a case of abetment to suicide against ten officers, including then DCP (traffic) of Guru gram, VinodKa us hik, then

D SP( vigilance) Sat ya, D SP At ma Ram, then SHO Jagdish Prasad, then SHO Hardeep Hooda, SHO Babu Lal, accountants Pawan and Kul want Muns hi, AS IVik as and his brother, Vijay.

These were the names mentioned in Singh’s suicide note, in which he had alleged that the officers were extorting money from him and making his life tough.

Devi, a mother of two, had approached the Punjab and Haryana high court for justice, which then ordered a CBI enquiry into the matter last October.

However, it was contended in the Supreme Court that the inquiry should be done by the local police. The SC dismissed the petition a few days ago, upholding the directions of the Punjab and Haryana high court.

“A case has been registered by CBI’s special crime branch, Chandigarh, in this connection,” RK Gaur, CBI spokesman, said.

The family members of the victim said that inspector DS Deswal of the CBI visited their house and also IMT area where Singh’s body was found.

“We are now hopeful that justice will finally be done,” Devi told Hindustan Times.
