Modi flays ‘personal attacks by Congress’

AHMED A BAD: Prime Minister Na rend ra Mo di, on Saturday, continued to accuse the Congress of mounting personal attacks on him claiming that the opposition party was questionin­g his parentage.

He quoted tweets by one Salman Nizamiw ho he claimed was a Congress leader to say that he “disapprove­s” of the use of bad language in public discourse.

The Congress retorted saying that Kashmir-based Nizami was not even a primary member of the party. Nizami in turn claimed that his account had been hacked.

At an election rally in Lunawad a, Mo di said that the Niza mi, in his tweets, had asked about the PM’s father and mother after spelling out the sacrifices made by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s father (Rajiv Gandhi) and grandmothe­r( India Gandhi).

“India is my father and mother, and like a good son, I will spend my entire life serving the country,” the PM said, while accusing the purported Congress leader of seeking Azad Kashmir and glorifying Parliament attack accused Afzal Guru.

“Do you want Afzal in every home? Can you allow Afzals in Gujarat ?” Mo di asked the crowd at the rally in Mahisagar district, where the second phase of polling will be held on December 14.

Continuing his tirade over Aiyar’s “neech” remark against him, he asked people at another rally in Bodeli, Chhota Udaipur district, “do I become neech because I was born in a backward

community?” The Congress on the other hand, accused Mo di for moving away from “real issues” and raking up unnecessar­y controvers­ies to divert people’s attention from the issues plaguing Gujarat.

“Kya Ab Bashan hi Sashan Hai ?( Is speech now governance ),” Gandhi asked in Banask ant ha district in Gujarat, where he addressed four rallies on Saturday, while claiming that developmen­t was missing from the PM’s speeches.

In Mo di’ s hometown of V ad nagar, Congress leader asked why the BJP released its vision document only after the campaign for the first phase had ended and accused the Mo di government of doling out benefitsto severalric­h industrial­ists at the cost of the poor and the deprived.

Stating thattheCon­gress took three months to prepare its manifesto, he said when the Congress government comes to power in Gujarati twill provide people free medicines and medical facilities in government hospitals.

Stating that 80% engineers in Gujarat are unemployed, Gandhi asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi why the state’s education system has been “sold out”.
