ROHTAK: The family of the sixyear-old girl who was found murdered after sexual assault agreed to cremate her body on Sunday after cops assured to arrest the accused within 48 hours.

In damage control mode, the Hisar administration met the family and announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh and a pucca house besides jobs for two family members and a BPL card.

The family, belonging to Sapera (Dalit) community, lived in a tented shelter they had built in an abandoned plot of a secluded street in Uklana block of district.

The six-year-old was allegedly abducted from her tented house when she was asleep with her mother and three siblings. Her brutalised, blood-soaked body was found by locals who informed the cops.

The post-mortem revealed that the victim died due to neurogenic shock as the accused inserted a 24 cm-long wooden stick inside her private parts, damaging her uterus and intestines.

The police constituted a special investigation team (SIT) under deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Jaipal Singh to probe the case. However, they have no leads so far.

“Till now, the incident is a blind rape and murder case for us. We have no clues and the area has very few CCTV cameras that are almost of no help. We are rounding up local criminals, drug addicts and history sheeters to investigate more,” DSP Jaipal told HT.

The parents of the victim, who work as labourers, have demanded prompt arrest and capital punishment to the accused.

Meanwhile, angry leaders of the opposition parties and locals thronged Uklana to meet the bereaved family and demonstrate against the government for the “deteriorating law and order” situation.

“The Khattar government is sleeping while incidents of rape and murder take place every other day,” said Randeep Singh Surjewala, senior Congress leader.

Former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, while demanding an immediate arrest of the accused, said such barbaric incidents show that the law and order machinery in the state under the BJP government had collapsed.

“Things have come to such a pass that children were neither safe in their schools nor at their homes,”said Hooda.

The incident comes as a chilling reminder of the December 16 gangrape incident in Delhi when a paramedical student was brutalised and killed on a moving bus.
