Two gangsters killed, 3 held after encounter in Bathinda

BATHINDA: Two gangsters were shot dead and three were arrested after an encounter with Punjab Police at Gulabgarh village in Bathinda on Friday morning. Police recovered a 9-mm pistol, .32-bore pistol and a .315-bore pistol from them.

The five gangsters, accomplice­s of Punjab’s most wanted gangster Vicky Go under, mastermind of the Nabha jailbreak, were travelling in a snatched white Scorpio (PB-02-CX-8395) when they decided to split. Three of them snatched a Toyota Fortuner (PB-13-AR-2222) from Nishan Singh of Sunam, who alerted the police.

Three gangsters were injured in the retaliator­y fire. Two of them, Ma np re et Manna of Ab oh a rand Prabhdeep Singh from Mamu Khera village in Fazilka, succumbed to injuries at a private hospital, while their accomplice Amritpal from Abohar is admitted to a hospital in Faridkot.

Their two accomplice­s, Harvind er SinghB hinda of Al am ga rh village in Ab oh ar, and G ur vin der Sing hG ind a from K am alw alain Fazilka district, who were in the Scorpio, have been arrested. Bhinda now lives in Jalilpur village in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh. All five are in their late 20s and early 30s.

Chinna said Harvinder is a cousin of gangster Shera Khuban, who was killed in a police encounter in Bathinda in 2012.

BOOKED FOR RAPE, COP STILL ON DUTY

Despite being booked for raping a woman, an ASI was on duty and was present at the encounter site.

A SIR anj it Singh, posted in the crime investigat­ion agency, along with two employees of liquor traders, was booked for raping a woman last month.

Woman has alleged that three entered her house on November 19 and ASI raped her while two others kept the door closed. The case was registered on Wednesday.

“Interestin­gly, if the gangsters shot at the police, then why is it that not a single policeman was injured.Also, whydo allencount­ers take place in Bathinda, where gangsters are killed, unlike at other places in Punjab, where police arrest gangsters,” the post questions.

The post goes on to claim that Davinder Bambiha (who was shot in an encounter in Bat hinda in 2016) and Shera Khuban (who was killed in 2012 by the police) were also victims of fake encounters. Assuming a warning tone, the postmentio­ns that police officers in Bathinda were staging fake encounters to get easy promotions, but“they must remember that a government job does not stay for life”. The officers’ turn to pay for the encounters will come, the post adds.

SSP Naveen Singla said, “The Facebook post has no authentici­ty. We have followed procedure and ordered magisteria­l inquiry as mandated by guidelines of the Supreme Court.”
