Accused produced in court, sent to 1-day police remand
A dayafterthe Hisar police claimed to have crackedthesensationalrapeand murdercaseofasix-year-oldgirl, thecopsproducedtheaccusedin a local court, which sent him to one-day police remand.
Thepolice,meanwhile,continued to keep the identity of the accused under wraps. In a bid to dodge the media and public, the policepersonneltooktheaccused to the hospital for his medical examination in a hush-hush manner.
Such was the blanket of secrecythrownbythepolicethat the mediapersons were not allowed to enter the court premiseswheretheoverzealousHaryana police personnel were deputed in heavy strength.
However, reliable sources in thepolicedepartmentrevealedto HT that the accused is a 19-yearold drug addict, who committed the crime under the influence of drugs.
The sources said that the accused was under the police scannerrightfromthefirstdayas the victim’s mother had expressed doubts over his role. “Theaccusedstaysclosetowhere the victim had been staying with her family in a tent-like structure,” sources said.
Whencontactedspecialinvestigationteam(SIT)headanddeputy superintendent of police (DSP)Barwala,JaipalSinghconfirmed the development. “We produced him before the court andhehasbeensenttoonedayin police remand.”
Meanwhile,thedistrictadministration gave a cheque of ₹4,12,500 to the parents of the victim.
The body of the girl had been foundnearatelephoneexchange in Uklana block of Hisar district on December 9.
Post-mortem revealed that a woodenstickhadbeeninsertedin her private parts, which ruptured her intestines.
As per the police, the girl had been abducted in her sleep and taken to the crime spot.
Six days after the horrific incident, Hisar superintendent of police (SP) Manisha Chaudhary in a late night press conference revealed that the police had managed to zero-in on the accused.
The SP, however, refused to revealtheidentityoftheaccused, saying that it could hamper investigations.
The case,which wasa chilling reminder of the December 16, 2012 Delhi’s Nirbhaya rape case, sparked off protests in different parts of district.
