20YROLD WHO STOLE SEDAN KILLED IN SHOOT OUT IN GURGAON

GURGAON: Unknown to them that the car they had stolen has aG PS tracking device, three hardened criminals were intercepte­d by a crime branch team of Gurgaon police on Thursday night while they were consuming liquor at a plot of Gali number 4 of Ravi Nagar on Basai road.

When the trio saw a police official knocking the driver side window, one of them fired as hot from inside, which was immediatel­y retaliated by the police officer killing the driver who tried to escape in the Honda City stolen from Gandhi Nagar in Gurgaon on Wednesday, the police said.

The deceased was identified as Akash Kumar (20), a notorious criminal.

Police said despite being critically injured in the shootout, Aka sh drove the car towards G ali no 3 and took a left turn, but hit a large cement manhole cover in the middle of the street. As the car lost balance, the car hit a pole a few metres ahead. He also tried to run over the officer, the police said.

One of the accused managed to disembark from the car, when it slowed down after hitting the manhole cover and managed to escape, the police said.

“The crime branch officials encircled the car and it took about two minutes for them to arrest one of the accused on the driver’ s seat. However, the critically injured driver (Akash), couldn’t come out and had to pulled out by policemen,” Rame Pradhan, a local who saw the incident from the top of his house, said.

Police said Akash was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
