ASI, two other cops booked for false drug case against Congman
MOGA: Three policemen, including an assistant sub-inspector of the crime investigation agency (CIA), have been booked for registering false drug case against a Congress worker, on the recommendation of the Justice Mehtab Singh Gill commission.
The accused cops are ASI Pahara Singh, head constables Harbhajan Singh and Gulab Singh. Baldev Kaur, mother of Congress worker Joginder Singh, had lodged a complaint against them.
The accused have been booked under Section 58 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and Sections 193 (punishment for false evidence) and 195 (giving or fabricating false evidence with intent to procure conviction of offence punishable with imprisonment for life) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Baghapurana police station.
The Gill commission was constituted by Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh to look into false cases registered during the Shiromani Akali DalBharatiya Janata Party (SADBJP) regime in Punjab.
As per the information, the police had booked Joginder in January 2015 for allegedly possessing 500 gram narcotic powder. Later, the powder recovered from the accused was not found to be narcotic.
