October 31: A 19-year-old civil service aspirant is gang-raped and robbed by four youth near the railway tracks, 100 meters from the Habibganj railway station at around 7.30pm
November 1 (morning): MP Nagar police refuses to register an FIR while the government railway police (GRP) officers mock the complainant and her mother for coming to report a ‘filmy story'
November 1: Girl's father himself nabs one of the accused and brings him to the police station, prodding the police to act
November 1 (evening): A zero
FIR is registered at the Habibganj police station against four accused and finally transferred to the Habibganj GRP after a delay of 24 hours November 1 (late evening): Police arrest four people. One of them had to be later released as his involvement could not be ascertained
November 3: Five police officers - the in-charges of GRP Habibganj, MP Nagar and Habibganj police station along with two sub-inspectors - suspended for dereliction of duty, while the city superintendent of police is shifted
November 5: Superintendent of police, GRP, is transferred November 11: Two doctors of Sultania Zanana Hospital are suspended for submitting a flawed medical report in which they said the woman had told them that the ‘sex was consensual’
November 12 : Madhya Pradesh high court asks the state government to submit an action taken report in the case, while terming police’s action and subsequent goof-up in medical examination of the girl as 'tragedy of errors'
November 16: A 200-page charge-sheet is filed by the police
November: 20: A show cause notice is issued to the superintendent of police (south) Bhopal and a departmental inquiry is initiated
November 21: The district court frames charges against the four accused. The advocates in Bhopal district court refuse to defend the accused
December 23: Verdict is delivered, sentencing all four convicts to life imprisonment
