Major, 3 soldiers of 2 Sikh killed in Pak firing along LoC in Rajouri

JAMMU: Pakistani troops opened fire on an Indian Army patrol killing a Major and three soldiers of the 2 Sikh Regiment along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keri sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Saturday. Another soldier was injured in the ceasefire violation.

Defence spokesman Col NN Josh is aid :“An officer, three soldiers died and another jaw an was injured in the cross-border firing by Pakistan troops at the Topa Barat Galla area in Keri sector at 12.15 pm .” He described it ac easefire violation.

“Major Moharkar Prafulla Ambadas, Lance Naik Gurmail Singh and Sepoy Pargat Singh were grievously injured during the ceasefire violation and succumbed to their injuries. Two other soldiers also sustained injuries and one of them, Lance NaikKul deep Singh, died during treatment.

Major Ambadas, 32, of Bhandara district in Maharashtr­a, is survived by his wife Avoli Moharkar.

Lance NaikGu rm ail Singh ,34, belonged to Amritsar in Punjab and is survived by his wife Kuljit K au rand a daughter. Sepoy Pargat Singh,30,ofKa rn ali nH aryan a, is survived by his wife Raman preetK au rand as on.

The latest violation of the cease fire agreement took place at a time when chief minister Mehbooba Mufti was camping in Rajouri district to address people’s grievances, said officials.

In a statement, the army said the Indian troops retaliated strongly and effectivel­y to the violation .“Martyrdom of our soldiers will not go in vain ,” read the statement.

Earlier this week, minister of state for home Hansraj Ahir had informed the Lok Sabha that 881 ceasefire violations have taken place along the Lo C and the Internatio­nal Border inJ&Kthisyear, killing 30 people.

Pargat Singh was one of the four jawans killed duringun provoked ceasefire violation by Pak army along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri sector on Saturday afternoon.

A telephone call from the commanding officer shocked the family of Pargat, who is survived by his wife, 6-year-old son, an elder brother, sister, and parents.

“I don' t want to say anything to our government as I know they will not do anything for the safety of our soldiers ,” said Ram a np re et Kaur, the widow of Pargat.

“Our government will not do anything in the future also, so I don’t have any message for them,” she said.

Pargat’s father Ratan Singh, however, demanded that the government should take decisive action against Pakistan and sort out the border issue to save the soldiers and their families.

Pargat had joined the army about eights years ago and was planning to retire in the next two years.

His wife said that he had come on leave last month and promised her to buy a new car after retirement.

“Par ga twas a good friend, husband, brother, son and soldier. During his leave, he used to spend all his time with his family members and tell stories about life in the army,” said Pargat's cousin Amandeep.

The aggrieved family had not get any phone call or message from district administra­tion and state government at the time of filing of this report. “Nobody has reached us yet and we do not know when the body will reach ,” Pargat's father said.
