Cab driver stabbed to death for driving rashly, attackers at large

NEW DELHI: Returning from a New Year’s Eve party, a 25-year-old cab driver was stabbed to death allegedly by a group of men over the issue of driving rashly in a narrow lane in a residentia­l colony in southwest Delhi’s Dwarka. The car was allegedly being driven by the accused.

Police said the incident took place a few minutes before midnight, when the deceased Nitish M ah to was returning home after partying with his friends. At the same time, the accused Deepak Kumar was also returning to his house in Kakrola, Dwarka.

Police said that at 11.50pm, when M ah to and his four friends were walking back home after a party, they saw a rashly driven car approachin­g the mat a highspeed. As the car went past them, Mahto and his friends shouted and asked the car driver to stop.

“The car stopped a few metres ahead. Two men came out and asked the men what the matter was. When M ah to and his friends objected to the rash driving, an argument broke out between them,” said Shibesh Singh, DCP Dwarka.

Finding themselves surrounded by six to seven men, the duo called their friends and told them about the altercatio­n. Within five minutes, four men arrived on motorcycle­s and joined the two. Soon, a scuffle broke out between them during which one of the men took out a knife and allegedly stabbed Mahto multiple times in his hands and other parts of the body.

As M ah to started bleeding, the attackers fled the crime scene. Locals who saw Mahto bleeding called the police. His friends rushed him to a nearby hospital from where he was shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital for better treatment .“M ah to succumbed to his stab injuries on Monday morning. A murder case was registered and investigat­ion was taken up,” said Singh.
