Quota for Jats: Social activist questions Haryana govt data
SAYS THE DATE SENT BY STATE GOVT TO THE COMMISSION PERTAINING TO JATS WAS NOT ONLY INCOMPLETE BUT ALSO ERRONEOUS
CHANDIGARH: Justifying the quota for socially, educationally and economically backward Jats, social activist Satyavir Singh Hooda submitted a representation in the context before Haryana backward classes commission here on Monday.
Briefing newspersons later, Hooda, who has also been highlighting various social issues, especially pertaining to the right to education (RTE) Act, said that as sought by Punjab and Haryan a high court, he had submitted his representation in favour of reservation of six communities namely Jat, Rod, Toyagi, Jat Sikh, Bish- noi and Mulla/Muslim Jat.
Hooda held that the data sent by the state government to the commission pertaining to Jats in government service, was not only incomplete but also erroneous.
Hooda said he was in the favour of quota for members of Jat community who were socially, educationally and economically backward and demanded in his representation exclusion of Jats who were in creamy layer in government jobs. Likewise, the state government should have excluded Jats, in its data, who had huge land holdings, he said, adding that it was thus also necessary to find out farmers with small land holdings—of less than two and one hectares—so as to have genuinely deserving members of Jat community for quota in government jobs and educational institutions.
Hooda further said in his representation that it was also necessary forth estate government to find out how many farmers defaulted on loans or debts to as certain their landholdings and economic status.
