PANIPAT: Two persons were killed and four were injured in a clash between two families at Namunda village of Samalkha block of Panipat district on Monday night.

The deceased have been identified as Dharmendra Singh (26) and Jagdish (57). Residents of the village said a scuffle ensued after Dharmendra’s car hit car Jagdish’s vehicle. Police said the two families had an old enmity.

Jagdish’s family members allegedly attacked Dharmendra with sticks and he died, they said. Enraged, Dharmendra’s brother Rajendra shot Jagdish dead with his licensed gun, it was alleged. Jagdeeh’s nephew Mahesh Kumar has sustained a bullet injury.

Dharmendra’s father Mahabir, mother Sona Devi, sister Kusumlata were admitted to the government hospital in Panipat after they sustained injuries. Their condition was said to be stable. Tension gripped the village and a heavy police force has been deployed there to avert any untoward incident. The police deployment would continue for a few more days.

Samalkha deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Naresh Kumar said the police have arrested Rajendra and Jagdish’s son Narendra a two fami-

The cases were registered under Sections 302, 148, 323, 149, 452 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The police said the bodies were handed over to the family members after the post-mortem.

The two families had a scuffle at the time of Jagdish’s daugh- ter’s marriage in 2011 and an FIR was registered in this regard, it was learnt. The two families had, however, reached an out-of-court settlement two years later.

Panipat superintendent of police (SP) Rahul Sharma said investigation was going on to arrest the other accused.
