J&K police reach AMU to probe Mannan Wani case
THE ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY RESEARCH SCHOLAR IS BELIEVED TO HAVE JOINED THE RANKS OF MILITANT GROUP HIZBUL MUJAHIDEEN
ALIGARH: A team of Jammu & Kashmir police, led by inspector Mo ham ma dZ a hoor Wani of Kupwara district, reached Aligarh Muslim University on Monday to probe the case of research scholar Man na nW a ni, who is believed to have joined the ranks of militant group Hizbul Mujahideen.
The team has collected records of the investigation conducted so far from the civil lines police and the AMU administration. Officials are likely to remain in the city for a few more days.
SP (city) Atul Srivastava told HT, “J&K police is collecting information about Mannan Wani. The literature recovered from his room is also being sc ru ti- nised.” Apart from intelligence agencies and J&K police, the UP Anti-terror Squad (ATS) and local police are also investigating the case.
In addition, a two-member committee constituted by AMU has been ana ly sing Wan i’ s activities before his disappearance from the campus early this month. Another team, constituted by the proctor, is also look- ing into some aspects of the case.
Meanwhile, the AM U administration has tightened on-campus security. Now, anyone entering any residential hall at the varsity will first have to register their entry. The AMU administration has also instructed hall authorities to paste the photos and details of all occupants on their hostel room doors. Vehicle parking inside halls is also prohibited.
Besides, AMU proctor Prof M M oh sin Khan is making random inspections to ensure that no outside rs are staying on campus. Earlier, V-C Pro fT ari qM an so or had told all provosts and wardens that if any outside rs or anti-social elements were found in any of the residential halls, the staff and students concerned would be held responsible in the matter.
