Naib tehsildar, his driver booked for taking ₹5,000 bribe

The district police on Friday booked naib tehsildar of Chabhal sub-tehsil Jagmohan Sing hand his private driverGu rwinder Singh of Mirakot village for allegedly taking a bribe of ₹5,000 from a farmer for bifurcatio­n of his land.

The case was registered after a team, comprising Tarn Taran member of legislativ­e assembly (ML A) Dr D ha ra mb ir Ag ni ho tr i’ s son Sandeep Agnihotri, additional deputy commission­er (ADC) general Sandeep Rishi, sub-division al magistrate( SD M ), Tarn Taran, Amandeep Kaur, visited the sub-t eh si land recovered ₹5,000 from the possession of the driver.

As per informatio­n, the farmer had informed the MLA’s son about the demand of then aib te hsilda rand his driver.

In his complaint with the Ch abhal police, farmer Manjinder Singh, however, said he had already given ₹26,000 as bribe to the driver of th et eh sild ar for getting his work done and on Friday he came to the sub-tehsil for giving ₹5,000 more for his work. He said he gave the money to the driver.

When the farmer gave the money to the driver, the MLA’s son caught the driver red-handed and recovered the money from him. The ADC and the SDM also reached the spot and the driver stated in front of the officers verbally that he had taken the bribe after the naib tehsildar ordered him to do so.SHO Manoj Kumar said a case has been registered under sections 8 and 9 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
