Kin block highway amid no trace of 3 missing youths
ROHTAK: The families of the Sonepat accident victims on Monday blocked the highway near Rohat village, as the police and rescue teams could find no trace of the three missing youths more than 36 hours after they were feared drowned in the Western Y am una Link canal.
The accident took place on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, when a car carrying five friends skidded off the road and fell into the canal near Rohat village.
While one of the youths, Chirag, was rescued by the local residents, body of another youth, Lakshaya, who had drowned was pulled out some time later.
The remaining three— Hitesh, Saurabh and Rohit, all residents of Rohtak’s Sampla village— continue to be missing and feared dead.
Hitesh had cleared his Chartered Accountants (CA) examination four days ago and was taking his friends for a treat to Murthal in Sonepat when the mishap occurred.
The family members said they have been requesting the ministers and administration who have been visiting them to reduce the water flow in the canal to find out the bodies, but they have been offered no help as of now.
In protest, they blocked the highway on Monday for more than half-an-hour till local authorities assured them of all possible help.
Sonepat ASP DK Bharadwaj said more than 150 divers have been searching for the bodies of the three youths. “We have requested the government to reduce the water flow. But the canal does not cater only to Sonepat. Only the Centre can take a decision on this,” he maintained.
