Married woman raped in Rohtak, neighbour booked

ROHTAK: A 27-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by a man late on Sunday night in Rohtak’s Indira Colony area, the police said on Monday.

The victim, a mother of two, worked as a constructi­on worker.

She said she did not have a toilet at home and had gone out to relieve herself on late Sunday night when the incident occurred. A man from her neighborho­od allegedly followed her to a secluded spot. She claimed he tied her hands, started biting her and raped her.

The victim said she warned the accused that she will inform her family members and the police, but he did not listen.

Based on the woman’s complaint, the police have registered a case under Sections 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code. The medical examinatio­n of the victim was conducted on Monday.

The police said the accused has been identified as Bhoora Kumar. He is on the run and the police are trying to nab him.

The incident comes close on the heels of more than half-adozen incidents of rapes and gangrapes in Haryana.
