:A day before the general house of Amritsar municipal corporation is scheduled to meet on Tuesday to elect the mayor, local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu is upset. Reason: He is not invited for the meeting.

“I was not consulted about the selection of mayors, particularly Amritsar, and nor I have been invited to take part in the meeting,” said Sidhu in a media interaction.

Sidhu, who’ s is in Amritsar he said on Monday he would not be going to the swearing-in ceremony for not being informed. “Without invitation, I only go to the Golden Temple or other places of worship,” he said.

Rural development and pa ch ayats minister Tript Raj in der Singh Bajwa, who was made observer for smooth conduct of the Amritsar municipal corporation polls, is camping in Amritsar to get preparations ready for tomorrow’s mayoral poll.

Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said it was unfortunate Sidhu was upset. “I have been trying to contact him, but he’s not available. I have sent district Congress president Jugal Ki shore to his home, but there’s no response. I want him to attend tomorrow’s meeting,” said Bajwa.

Sidhu got elected as member legislative assembly from Amritsar( east ), and the constituency has 18 wards out of total 85 in the Amritsar municipal corporation. The local bodies minister was given free hand to select the candidates, who would contest the polls and the state unit of the Congress party had made rural development and panchayats minister as observer for smooth conduct of polls.

Interacting with the media here, the minister said he came to know about mayoral polls from newspapers. Sources say the Congress has decided to election as mayor Karamjeet Singh Rintu, a Jat Sikh, who has no association with Sidhu and has direct links with Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh. “Jo Captain Sahib Ch au hun, Jee Sadke( Whatever the Captain wishes, is pleasurable ), but I have no clue (who is becoming a mayor),” reacted Navjot Singh Sidhu, saying the chief minister has assigned the duty to Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa and the president of the PPCC Sunil Jakhar to decide about it.
