CHANDIGARH: The forthcoming Haryana assembly budget session, which is scheduled to begin on March 5, is all set to see fireworks with Opposition parties already rolling their sleeves up to corner the ruling BJP government on various issues ranging from expenditure on Amit Shah’s rally to public money and law and order situation.

Major Opposition party Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala said his party will also raise the issue pertaining to Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal in the session.

”It is an irony that the BJP governments at the Centre as well as Haryana have failed to take any action in the SYL canal issue despite the decision of the Supreme Court being in Haryana’s favour,” Abhay said.

The INLD will also reiterate its demand of state government bearing the ‘huge’ expenditure incurred while making security arrangements for the BJP president Amit Shah’s rally in Jind on February 15.

“The party will also raise the burning issue of deteriorating law and order situation in the state,” Abhay said and rued that Cabinet’s decision to fix March 5 to begin the session was a ploy. “The state government knows very well about the INLD’s rally in Delhi on March 7 on the SYL canal issue and thus, has deliberately fixed March 5 as the date of budget session. I will, however, ask chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and parliamentary affairs minister Ram Bilas Sharma to begin the session March 8,” Abhay said.

He added: “INLD will in any case corner the ruling government on numerous issues.” Meanwhile, senior Congress legislator Karan Dalal announced that Congress MLAs will gherao the treasury benches on the issue of Shah’s rally.

“How can the ruling government assure safety and security of the common people if it holds its own party rally under the heavy security cover of the central forces?” Dalal questioned, and looked askance at the expenditure made from the public money. “Besides deteriorating law and order situation, we will also raise the issue of PalwalGhaziabad-Kundli expressway as the government is not keen to connect Palwal with this highway,” said Dalal.
