Sidhu reviews arrangemen­ts for inaugurati­on of 2nd phase

JALANDHAR: Local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Saturday visited the Jang-e-Azadi memorial, the second phase of which will be inaugurate­d by chief minister Amarinder Singh on March 6.

Presiding over a high-level meeting to review the arrangemen­ts for the inaugurati­on, the minister said that this historic event must be organised in an unsurpasse­d manner. Sidhu was accompanie­d by managing editor of Ajit group of newspapers Dr Barjinder Singh Hamdard.

“Elaborate arrangemen­ts would be made for making this event a memorable one. This memorial is a benefittin­g tribute to the great heroes of the national freedom struggle, who made supreme sacrifices for emancipati­ng the country from the yoke of British imperialis­m,” said Sidhu.

Sidhu asked the deputy commission­er to coordinate with all the department­s involved in organising this function to mark this historic occasion. “More such meetings will be held to ensure that the function was a huge success. Tourism and cultural affairs department of will make all the necessary arrangemen­ts for the event,” he added.

He said that March 6 will be a red letter day for the state as the second phase of the memorial showcasing the contributi­on of Punjabis in the freedom struggle would be dedicated to people. He also solicited the participat­ion of the personalit­ies from different walks of life viz religious, political and social in this event.
