‘UNLAWFUL’ Himachal DGP Sita Ram Mardi met accused former SP DW Negi in jail superintendent’s room without court’s permission
DG PRISON SOMESH GOYAL CONFIRMED THAT THEY HAVE RECEIVED A NOTICE
SHIMLA : Himachal Pradesh prison department has issued notice to Kaithu Jail superintendent Lalit Mohan Sharma for facilitating a meeting between director general of police (DGP) Sita Ram Mardi and former Shimla SP DW Negi.
Mardi, over a week ago, visited Kaithu Jail and reportedly met DW Negi. However, DG had maintained that he visited Kaithu to check some construction work in the police line Kaithu.
However, the prison department has issued notice to the superintendent to explain about this matter. It was said that meeting between DGP and the accused in the jail superintendent’s room, without court permission is against law.
When asked about the matter, chief minister Jai Ram Thakur said he came to know about it through media reports.
DGP Sita Ram Mardi could not be contacted for the comment. However, DG prison Somesh Goyal confirmed that they have received a notice from the prison department seeking explanation regarding the meeting between duo. “None of the accused is allowed to enter jail superintendent’s room. Facilitating a meeting of DGP with an accused is illegal. Let jail authority file explanation,” an officer said, requesting anonymity.
DW Negi, who was arrested in September, is an accused in custodial death of a suspect in Kotkhai rape and murder case.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has recently filed a chargesheet against Negi in the same case under Sections 302 (murder), 201 (removing the evidences) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC.
