PHAGWARA: The Phagwara police on Saturday arrested a friend of the 34-year-old migrant, who was found murdered on February 21, for killing him.

Addressing a press conference here, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sandeep Kumar Sharma said accused Vinod Tuphan, 33, a native of Jharkhand, killed his friend Bishram Prashad after he suspected an affair between his wife and the victim.

Prashad was brutally murdered and his body was thrown near Nangal Majha village in Phagwara.

Police said Prashad was a migrant from Jharkhand who became friends with Vinod last year.

“They were working as labourers together,” the police added.

The deceased is survived by his wife and a minor child.

Police had found the Prashad’s body in a pool of blood, after Kuldip Singh, a localite, spotted the body lying at an empty plot early on Wednesday morning.

SSP said the accused has confessed to his crime and further investigation was on.

As per the case, deceased along with Vinod had attended a wedding ceremony of one of his friend’s daughter on Tuesday night.

Later that night, the duo consumed liquor at an isolated building.

“The accused on suspecting an affair between his wife and Prashad, attacked him with bricks which resulted in his on-spot death,” Phagwara superintendent of police Parminder Singh said.

Vinod has been charged with murder and causing the disappearance of evidence of offence.
