JAMMU: National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Sunday appealed to both Indian and Pakistan to find a way to put an end the bloodshed, which has seen a spurt in the recent past along the borders of Jammu and Kashmir.

Responding to a query regarding a rise in shelling by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC)in Uri sector, Rajouri and Poonch districts, the former J&K chief minister said, “The shelling is not one-sided, it is not like that. If they (Pakistan) shell us one, we shell them 10 in retaliation, as the Indian Army chief has himself said. Unless we find a way different from this, the people on both sides will suffer. Many of us and our soldiers will die and the same goes for the situation on the other side.”

Farooq Abdullah was interacting with reporters on the sidelines of a function in Jammu on Sunday.

Abdullah said, “I think Government of India must find a way forward. What that way forward is, is upto the Prime Minister of India to decide. I would say the same thing to his Pakistani counterpart that time has come to end the bloodshed.”

Peace must be restored on the J&K border and in PoK, he added.

On the query that Pakistan often shells civilian areas, Abdullah said, “When the bomb comes, it does not know where it is going to fall. The attacks are done without actually finding the targets, they are just shelling to frighten the people.”
