BHAGANA (HISAR): Even as the All India Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti (AIJASS) president Yashpal Malik has given time to the state government till March-end to withdraw cases against Jats registered during the 2016 quota agitation, the Haryana faction of the AIJASS tried to organise a dharna in Bhagana village on Monday.

The dharna — organised by Haryana AIJASS president Hawa Singh Sangwan and district president Daljeet Panghal — fizzled out after the administration told them that they do not have permission. Now, these local AIJASS leaders have decided to protest at the site from Tuesday, after completing all formalities.

Earlier in the day, Hisar SDM Paramjeet Singh Chahel and DSP Sidharth Dhana reached the dharna spot with a large police force and told Sangwan to vacate the land.

Offcials said the AIJASS did not have permission to protest and launch a dharna. After an hour of discussion between AIJASS’s Hisar district president Daljeet Panghal and Sangwan, the protest was deferred to Tuesday.

Sangwan told HT, “We have handed over a letter to the administration to start a dharna from Tuesday. Now, it is for the administration to decide, if they want us to start a dharna or not.” He added, “We also assured the administration that our dharna will be peaceful; if the administration uses force against us, we will also fight back. Now, the new dharna venue will be Bhagana village.”

‘1,819 CASES ARE STILL PENDING’

On their main demand, Sangwan added, “The government must withdraw 1,819 cases registered against the youth during 2016. Of these, only one case has been taken back in the Siwani town of district Bhiwani.”

He added that if even then there was no response from the government, the AIJASS will increase the number of dharnas in the state. “After a week, members of the AIJASS core committee members will meet state finance minister Captain Abhimanyu. Youths had set ablaze the minister’s house during the agitation,” Sangwan added.

ADMINISTRATION PREPARED

The administration is prepared to ensure law and order is maintained and heavy police force has been deployed.

Hisar deputy superintendent of police Sidharth Dhanda said, “We have enough force to deal with any untoward situation. The Haryana Armed Police (HAP), the Rapid Action Force (RAF), the Haryana police, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) all are on duty. No breach of law and order will be allowed. There will be no jamming of roads or railways.”

Hisar SDM Chahel said, “I have received a copy of request from the AIJASS for a place to start a dharna. The matter will be sent to my bosses for consideration. Hisar deputy commissioner Nikhil Gajraj and the CM Manohar Lal Khattar is also ready to hold talks with the AIJASS.”

YASHPAL MALIK IS A GOVERNMENT MAN, CLAIMS SANGWAN

Addressing a gathering of 80-odd people, including 25 women of the Bhagana village, Sangwan claimed that AIJASS president Malik, who is leading the Jat reservation protest, is a man of the government and works for the establishment.

Sangwan, a former commandment of the CRPF, said, “As people learn more about him, the Jat community is leaving him. He is not fighting for the community, but he is making money from the government by holding protests from time to time.”

WOMEN PLEDGE SUPPORT TO DHARNA

Residents of Bhagana village, who reached the dharna spot at about 5pm, said a large number of women will also join the stir that they claimed was ‘for a good cause’.

“Young men from Haryana contribute to the army and in sports. The government is registering cases against them and sending them to jail. There will be a time when no young men will be left to fight for the country,” claimed Amarpati Devi, Chandro Devi, Murti Devi and Rajo Rani.

‘NEED PROOF OF CASES TAKEN BACK’

Daljeet Panghal, district president of AIJASS said, “The SDM and the DSP told us that cases against youth have been taken back. The government must show us documents proving that the cases have been withdrawn.”
