Inlaws accuse J&K policeman of killing wife
JAMMU: Accusing the police inspector of murdering his wife and influencing the ongoing investigation, the family of victim Neha Bassan have demanded fast-tracking of the case by either constituting a special investigation team (SIT) or handing over the case to CBI.
On February 26, Neha Bassan, 30, wife of Inspector Vivek Bassan, died of a gunshot wound fired from Vivek's service revolver. Vivek works in the chief minister’s security.
Neha was married to Vivek around three years back and has left behind a two-year-old son.
Visibly frightened and hapless Rattan Lal, father of Neha, alleged, "My daughter was very brave and I cannot believe that she took such an extreme step of committing suicide. Moreover, she was right-handed and the bullet entered her skull from the left. It is Vivek who fired the bullet and murdered my daughter.”
He alleged, "Vivek's mother used to harass her and often made dowry demands of furniture and cash. Vivek never had time for our daughter.”
Rattan Lal said, “We feel that the police is delaying the investigation, despite trying to destroy the evidence.”
Jammu city (north) Sub-divisional police officer Varun Jandial said, "Police is carrying out the investigation as per procedure. There was no eye witness to the incident. The police is not trying to shield the inspector.”
