Five traffic cops take ₹200 in bribe, suspended

JALANDHAR: Police commission­er Parveen Kumar Sinha on Monday suspended five traffic cops for taking ₹200 bribe from a truck driver.

A case under Sections 7, 13, (1) of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against assistant sub-inspectors Satnam Singh, Gulshan Kumar and constables Sukhwant Singh, Jaswant Singh, Major Singh.

The action came following complaints that traffic cops harass truck drivers coming from neighbouri­ng states. It was alleged that they take bribe for letting the truck drivers off.

Five cops at two checkpoint­s took a bribe of ₹100 each from a truck driver on Monday, said Sinha, adding that they were immediatel­y suspended and the action was a warning for all.
