CHANDIGARH: Haryana agriculture and farmers’ welfare minister OP Dhankar said on Friday that making agriculture viable and increasing farmers’ income is a challenging task.

Promotion of agriculture allied sectors and adoption of crop pattern is necessary for increasing the income of farmers, the minister said in a press conference here.

Stating that the state government is promoting organic farming in a big way, Dhankar said the Haryana government is mulling over a proposal to start agri-tourism, increase the number of ‘kisan bazaars’ and set up 340 ‘bagawani villages’.

According to Dhankar, chief minister (CM) Manohar Lal Khattar will inaugurate the three-day third edition of ‘Agri Leadership Summit-2018’ beginning March 24 at Rohtak. Union agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh; Haryana governor Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki and Himachal Pradesh governor Acharya Devvrat will also be present at the summit.

He said without entrepreneurship, to make agriculture sector viable and increase farmers’ income was a challenging task. He said the objective of the summit was to show 16 lakh farmers the achievements of the state in agriculture and apprise of the future plans. He said the themes of summit would be direct marketing, doubling farmers’ income and enhancing milk production.

Tractors and motorcycles would be given to the farmers as first, second and third prize.
