Khade wins gold at Singapore swimming meet

SINGAPORE:Young swimmer Virdhawal Khade, continued his winning streak with a gold in 50m freestyle at the Singapore National Age Group Swimming Championships. Competing against a host of international swimmers, Khade swam his season’s best time of 23.02 sec to win.

The 26-year-old had also bagged silver in 50m freestyle at the same event. “This was a good place to start. It feels great winning for the country. Honestly, I expected a faster time, but I’ll take this,” he said.

BENGAL BEAT MANIPUR

KOLKATA: Bengal began their title defence with a 3-0 defeat of Manipur, while Kerala hammered Chandigarh 5-1 on the opening day of the national football championship for the 72nd Santosh Trophy on Monday. Sumit Das struck a double (6’,15’) to give Bengal a 2-0 lead before half-time. Bidyasagar sealed the issue with a 82nd minute goal.

ADITI FINISHES T-26TH

PHOENIX: Indian golfer Aditi Ashok seemed to have regained her form on the final day as she carded six birdies en route to a week’s best card of four-under 68 to finish T-26 at the Bank of Hope Founders Cup on the LPGA. The 19-year-old Indian had three birdies against one bogey on either side of the turn and took her total from four-under 212 and Tied50th place to eight-under 280 and Tied-26th place.
