JAMMU : The authorities of the Government Medical College and Hospital here revoked the suspension order of a medico who was terminated for sharing an 'anti-government' post on Facebook.

Dr Amit Kumar, posted as a registrar in the anesthesia department on a contract basis for three years, posted on his Facebook account that a lift inaugurated by health and medical education minister Bali Bhagat was not a new one but only a 'refurbished' unit.

Thereafter, GMCH principal Sunanda Raina served Kumar a show cause notice and later terminated his services.

Enraged over the termination of Kumar, resident doctors’ association on Monday had given two days time to GMCH authorities to revoke the order or face strike.

Principal Raina in a presser on Tuesday shared that the lift was a new one and it was not a repaired unit as was being made out.

The mechanical engineering wing of the hospital also showed papers pertaining to purchase of the life for which around ₹55 lakh were spent.

Later in the day, Kumar sub-

mitted an undertaking, apologising for his conduct to the principal. Principal Raina instructed him to maintain discipline in the future and revoked his termination order.

The government had in December last year barred its employees from using their social media accounts for any “political activity” by amending the conduct rules, drawing strong condemnation from different quarters and opposition parties.

According to the statutory regulatory order (SRO), no government employee shall engage in any criminal, dishonest, immoral or notoriously disgraceful conduct on social media which may be prejudicial to the state.
