HISAR: Five people, including four members of a family, were killed and 18 others were injured after a car rammed into a Haryana Roadways bus on the national highway-9 near Hisar’s Durjanpur village on Wednesday.

The victims were identified as Om Prakash, 55, his sons Praveen Kumar, 30, and Radhey Shyam, 22, brother Raghubir Singh (50), and a neighbour, Vikas Kumar, 19. They were all residents of Fatehabad.

Police said Om Prakash had suffered a heart attack and he was referred to a Hisar hospital. Vikas agreed to carry him in his Honda City car and they were on their way to Hisar when the incident took place on the Durjanpur flyover, about 15 km from Hisar city.

Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Mohammad Jamal said, “Vikas, who was driving the car, lost control of the vehicle after a tyre burst. The car hit the divider, swung into the air, landed on the other side and collided with a Haryana Roadways bus that was coming from the opposite direction.”

He said all five people travelling in the car died on the spot. Such was the impact of the collision, that one body was found in the service lane below the flyover.

The DSP said 18 bus passengers were injured in the incident. Nine of them were admitted to the Agroha medical college and nine others to the Hisar civil hospital.

Bus conductor Ramesh Kumar said, “The car was running at a very high speed and the driver lost control over it after the tyre burst. I had to apply brakes suddenly, resulting in injuries to the passengers in the bus.”

As the news of the accident reached Fatehabad, a pall of gloom descended on Kath Mandi area where the family lives.
