SHIMLA: Ram Kumar, father of 23-year-old Aman Awasthi of Delhi, has been running from pillar to post in search of his son, who has been missing since March 7 in Malana of Parvati valley in the district.

Aman reportedly informed his family on March 1 that he was leaving for Kullu and that he will return to work at his IT firm in Gurgaon within a week. “He told me he was in Kullu. I last spoke to him on March 7 and transferred ₹7,000 to his bank account as he had asked,” Kumar said.

He added that after he failed to contact Aman after March 11, he traced the transaction from his bank account and got contact of a local home stay in Malana where he was staying.

Kumar said he reached Kullu on March 13 and registered a case at Jari police station a day later. “On reaching Malana, I was informed by the home stay owner that Aman had left his belongings at the room,” said Kumar, who is an employee of Indian Oil Corporation in Delhi.

Kullu ASP Nischint Negi said, “We recovered some clothes, shoes of the missing man. A team was also dispatched to search upper hills of Malana.”

Chabe Ram Negi, a rescuer in Jari, said he and 50 villagers tried looking for Aman. “He was spotted by a shepherd on March 14 around a cliff. Since then, his whereabouts are unknown.”

Malana is infamous for cannabis cultivation. Villagers extract hashish, which is then sold at high rates to drug cartels.
