South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis applied saliva to the ball with a lolly in his mouth against Australia. He pleaded not guilty but was fined his entire match fee.
OCTOBER 2013, DUBAI TEST
Du Plessis fined 50% of match fee and South Africa penalised five runs against Pakistan after TV visuals showed Du Plessis rubbing the ball near the zipper of his trouser pocket.
JANUARY 2010, PERTH ODI
Shahid Afridi, Pakistan skipper, banned for two ODIs after he was caught by TV cameras apparently biting the ball on a couple of occasions in the game versus Australia.
AUGUST 2006, OVAL TEST
Pakistan forfeited fourth Test after umpires called for change of ball and docked five runs for tampering. Pakistan delayed return after tea and were deemed to have forfeited.
JANUARY 2004, BRISBANE ODI
Rahul Dravid fined 50 percent of match fee after being caught on TV rubbing a cough lozenge to shine the white ball to get it to swing against Zimbabwe.
NOV 2001, PORT ELIZABETH TEST
Sachin Tendulkar given suspended one-match ban by match referee for tampering. On protest, it was reduced to altering ball’s condition without umpire's permission.
JULY 1994, LORD’S TEST
England’s Michael Atherton was caught applying dirt from his pocket during the Test against South Africa. He was fined 50 percent of his match fee.
JANUARY 1977, CHENNAI TEST
Umpire Judah Reuben picks up discarded Vaseline strips and accuses England pacer John Lever of tampering. But the fast bowler is let off by the England board.
