Adesh University moves HC against govt notification over fee, seats
FARIDKOT: After framing rules over the fee structure for MD/MS (clinical) course, Adesh University approached the Punjab and Haryana high court on Tuesday against the Punjab government’s notification regarding fee and seats distribution. The high court has issued the notice of motion to the state and fixed the next hearing on Friday (April 6).
Punjab director research and medical education Avnish Kumar said they will file the reply to defend the government notification in the court. He said the notification on fee and seat distribution stands. University vicechancellor GPI Singh said they challenged the notification which is in violation of the Adesh University Act. “The government has no jurisdiction to issue notification as the university is an autonomous body as the Adesh University Act gives it powers to fix the reservation and fee structure,” he said.
On Tuesday, the university also issued a notice that students who want to get admission during the centralised counselling being conducted by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, may submit an undertaking that their admission to Adesh Medical College is subject to the outcome of the writ petition filed in the high court.
BFUHS registrar Arvind Sharma said they have received no order from the state director of research and medical to accept any undertaking from the students who are interested to take admission in Adesh varsity. BFUHS is conducting the counselling as per the notification issued by state government.
