Locals suspend agitation for 3 months after admn assurance

JAMMU : People of Nowshera suspended their 46-day long agitation demanding district status for the sub-division for three months after the administra­tion agreed to take forward these demands for cabinet approval.

Rajouri deputy commission­er Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) Rajouri Yougal Manhas attended a meeting held with the members of Nowshera Joint Action Committee, Bar Associatio­n, Sanatan Dharam Sabha along with the other social and youth organisati­ons on Monday evening.

The administra­tion assured the members that their demands, will be projected to the government as it require cabinet approval.

JAC, after the assurance, has given time of three months to the government for resolving these issues.

Sanatan Dharam Sabha president Jagdish Sawhney said, “We have suspended our agitation for three months after the assurances from the administra­tion that our key demands will be addressed by that time.”

The locals have reiterated that Nowshera deserves to get district status as it is the central place.

SIKH LEADER DETAINED

A Sikh leader was detained under the Public Safety Act in Rajouri for making provocativ­e speeches on Tuesday. Police said Devinder Singh Behl, an advocate by profession, had recently asked people to march to Mirpur Kotli in Pakistan-administer­ed Kashmir as part of the agitation for grant of district status to Nowshera.
