Baba Farid varsity cancels second PG counselling
FARIDKOT: The Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot, on Monday cancelled the second round of counselling for postgraduate MD/MS/MDS courses after the Supreme Court stayed on reversion/transfer/surrender of vacant seats.
The apex court’s order stated that “there shall be stay of reversion of the seats by the central government to the state government/s until further orders. In the meantime, the respondents may file their respective reply affidavit, if any”.
The matter will now be heard further on April 27.
BFUHS vice-chancellor Dr Raj Bahadur said, “In reference to the SC judgement, we have postponed the counselling till 27 April or the decision of the court, which ever is earlier.” Varsity’s registrar Dr Arvind Sharma said the prior announced schedule for the second round of counselling from April 24 to April 26 stood cancelled. “Any new information regarding this will be uploaded on the university website www.bfuhs.ac.in. The candidates are requested to refer to the website regularly,” he added.
Around 50% of MD seats in dental sciences in Punjab had gone vacant after the conclusion of the first round of centralised counselling at the university on April 5. Of 133 seats across 12 dental colleges, only 68 have been filled.
The national board of examinations had this year lowered the qualifying percentile for the MDS course too.
However, for MD/MS courses in other streams, 350 of 420 seats have been filled.
