PATIALA: The state vigilance bureau (VB) has named two close relatives of former senior superintendent of police (SSP) SS Grewal as co-accused in the disproportionate assets case against him.

The bureau has found more ‘benami’ property worth over ₹2 crore in the name of Grewal, who was produced in a local court on Thursday. His remand has been extended for four more days till April 30.

Notably, Grewal has been in the bureau custody since April 18.

VB SSP Jaspreet Singh Sidhu said the investigators have found more unaccounted properties in Grewal and his relatives’ names, including a banquet hall at Khanna in Ludhiana district and 25 bighas of agricultural land at Bhasaur village near Dhuri in Sangrur district.

“The market value of the two properties is estimated over ₹2 crore,” he said.

He added that though Grewal bought agriculture land on the name of his relatives but the investors found that the purchase was funded by the ex-SSP during his service years.

A VB official said Pritpal Singh, Grewal’s cousin, and Jaswinder Singh, his son Jasjit Singh’s brother-in-law, have been named as co-accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act. “Since the case registration, VB has unearthed properties worth ₹16 crore in the name of Grewal and his relatives,” the SSP said.
